Current Show
The CarnivalArtwork on display until September 19, 2008
Ezmarelda the Fortune Teller, Cobrilla the Snake Charmer and Beardra the Bearded Lady return to The Studio for Arts Alive on Saturday, September 6th from 6 pm to 9 pm. These are just a few of the colorful characters that inhabit the side show performance installation that is part of The Carnival, the title of this returning show at The Studio / Cheri Blackerby Gallery. Other characters inhabiting the mock carnival environment include a Magician, a Lion King and Knifey the knife thrower.
These and other characters were created by The Studio drama class, along with tents, costumes and props. The performance is interactive and involves the audience in a make believe world of mysterious Carnival people who transform into scary characters at night. The installation will be in The Studio classroom.
At the Cheri Blackerby Gallery next door, there is a display of Carnival inspired artwork created by almost all the artists who work at The Studio. Strange faces and half human animals, both painted and sculpted, fill the gallery. The gallery is decorated in a fashion to suggest a circus atmosphere.
The performance / installation will be ongoing throughout the Arts Alive evening. The artwork will be on display until Sept. 19.
