Artist John TaylorJohn Taylor

John Taylor is a native of Eureka, California. He started working at the Studio in 2006. John paints, draws with marker, does mosaic and ceramics. His mother, Nancy Taylor, was a local artist whose paintings have been a regular sight in Old Town Eureka for many years.

John Taylor’s paintings and drawings are graphic depictions of archetypal landscapes. John Taylor’s lollipop trees sit by rivers with triangle sail boats sailing by. They are bright and fantastical places where multiple suns peek out from cloudy skies, to shine down on forever fruiting and flowering trees and plants. Sometimes houses and cars populate his worlds.

John likes his space. His artwork appears to be the idealization of this space. The assurance of this ideal is confirmed in his approach to constructing his pictures. His artwork is produced with a controlled ease: every application of John's pen or brush is an intentional arrangement of color, shape and line.
