Turley does not paint haystacks, she paints the Sun. Linda is one of the earliest Studio artists and she has always painted pictures of the sun or the moon. Her paintings usually start with a large yellow circle and then other colors are painted around it, eventually turning into variously oriented color fields of arbitrary shape. You can ask her the title of any given piece and she will emphatically announce the same monosyllabic title: “Sun!” (Every so often the answer will be “Moon!”) Over the ten years Linda has been doing this, she has accumulated a lot of similar looking paintings and sold many as well. periodically a painting hits the mark and every thing comes together in a magnificent sunrise/ sunset/ mysterious space. Linda also likes silk scarf painting, something at which she excels.
Jung claimed that the ideal shape of the soul is round, and people who draw mandalas are attempting to integrate their psyche. If that is true, then maybe Linda Turley has achieved that integration, because from time to time Linda can be overheard making the claim: “I like myself.”
