Artist Bio
For an extended period of time, much of Betty's work was geared toward her show, “Betty’s Banquet” which opened in December 2007. For this show, Betty produced numerous ceramic sculptures of food and a large number of acrylic paintings, still lifes of food and beverages. This was her preoccupation for two years, replacing her previous themes of clouds, flowers and wildlife. Since then she still makes many ceramic pieces related to food while continuing to paint landscapes.
Betty’s strong sense of humor and general enjoyment of life is present in some of her work. Her still lifes often include the words “the Still Life of...” right in the picture, sometimes even crowding out the actual picture. Some of her food sculptures have cartoon proportions. Others though are scrumptiously realistic. This is in line with Kuhnel’s desire that people find her sculptures good enough to eat.
Betty is also a member of The Sketch Club, a group of artists who work portrait booths locally. She is also exploring her theatrical interests through the Drama and Video classes.
In addition to the video featured below, Betty has another video on her own You Tube page. That video, "Save The Sorceror" can be seen at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBsu9TTTQus
