Artist Iris SmithIris Smith

Iris Smith’s drawings and paintings are a psychedelic wilderness of thought expressed through intricate designs comprising abstract forms, organic shapes and vibrant color schemes. Her drawings are often arrangements of rhythmic patterns that are mindful of jazz compositions. Iris' work can be seductive and hypnotizing. Sometimes her drawings resemble mandalas.

Iris is one of the original artists who began coming to the Studio in it's first year.

As Iris is mostly nonverbal, deciphering her inner life can be difficult. Her art is embedded with a subtle sense of humor and irony, allowing a partial glimpse of her personality. Iris could be described as bright, sunny and engaged. With a hint of mischief. She is a diligent, focused and prolific artist who works at The Studio 4 days a week.

Recently, Iris has been incorporating collaged elements into her art. This new phase has led to Iris challenging herself to find just the right colors of paint to match the photos being used in her collage.
She is very good at this, which is not surprising, as her artwork has always shown an intuitive grasp of color theory.
