Artist Helena WilliamsHelena Williams

Helena William's says she makes art because it is sociable and fun. The Humboldt native has been an artist since the 60’s. Ceramics and painting are her favorite form of creativity, though she is always seeking out various found materials and her projects often become multimedia engineering projects, like the Airplane float she created for a parade recently.

William's has shown an advanced sense of color harmonies in her work at The Studio, as well as a highly developed sense of composition and brushwork. Helena says her sense of color comes from the years of embroidery work she did 30 years ago.

Helena’s sculptures reveal the same attention to detail as her painting. Exquisite ceramic couples are placed in carefully crafted boxes adorned with stones and shells. The interior of the boxes are painted to create the illusion of a natural environment for her figures.

One of the keys to the success of Helena’s work is the balance between attention to detail and a playfulness that is always present in both her art and her personality.
